Galeocerdo cuvier (tiger shark) is a macropredator quite like no other, it’s the only extant member of the genus Galeocerdo. It is a migratory, live bearing, warm ocean shark that will eat almost anything. It is responsible for the second most shark attacks, second only to the great white shark. Not much is known about the evolutionary background of the tiger shark, but it is thought to stretch back 54 million years, with fossil records being found of ancient forebears leading to the current form. It is massive specimen capable of reaching lengths of 5m (16 ft) and weighing up to 1,400 pounds. The skin of the tiger shark ranges from blue to grey with a whit-ish or yellow-ish belly, though many tiger sharks have a silver-grey camouflage appearance that is shot through with black and gives the impression of shimmering. The shark uses this coloration as countershading, a camouflage that makes it immensely successful at hunting prey.
The Galeocerdo Vertex has been curated in a beautiful Omas acrylate called Silver Pearl. The material a shiny base black that has silver, grey, and white swaths throughout it. The effect is an amazing chatoyance that is reminiscent of shark skin, and when we saw it we immediately thought of Galeocerdo cuvier. Like its namesake, the Galeocerdo Vertex has amazing clean lines that lead to tapers and turns, giving it a fascinating look that brings to mind movement.
