H-alpha is a specific deep-red visible spectral line in the Balmer series with a wavelength of 656.28 nm in air; it occurs when a hydrogen electron falls from its third to second lowest energy level. H-alpha light is important to astronomers as it is emitted by many emission nebulae and can be used to observe features in the Sun's atmosphere, including solar prominences and the chromosphere. An H-alpha filter is an optical filter designed to transmit a narrow bandwidth of light generally centered on the H-alpha wavelength. (Source Wikipedia)
The discovery of H-alpha and the creation of the H-alpha filter have been instrumental in viewing not just our universe but also our own sun. The H-alpha filter allows us to bring amazing images of Nebulae to life for everyone to see. The “Pillars of Creation” from the Eagle Nebula come to mind with their “elephant trunk” swirls of gas that has been turned into an mage and popularized as a poster. Viewing the solar flares and other surface explosions of the sun would not be possible without the H-alpha filter. The H-Alpha Vertex is crafted from an amazing rich red material that is shot through with white and silver iridescent flecks. The red is a true red that holds the gaze and is absolutely stunning. While the white and silver areas catch the light and bring to mind those huge swirls of gas in far off Nebulae. The experience is truly breathtaking.
You'll be prompted to select from four transparent grip sections when purchasing the H-Alpha Vertex: Blue, Red, Smoke, or UV Clear. These colors complement the color of the cap and barrel and really allow the material shine. Ships in a a machined aluminum box we have designed specifically for the Vertex fountain pen, custom foam inserts have been sourced for the box, and the lid has been logo'd on the outside with Vertex logo while the inside of the lid is custom marked with instructions on filling and care of the pen. Comes standard with a Bock polished steel nib, with upgrades in two-tone steel, titanium, and 14k gold available. The #6 nibs units are manufactured by Peter Bock in Germany. Also included with each pen is a 2 ml soft pipette and a Schmidt K5 international standard converter. Each pen is designed and machined, by us, in the USA.
