Special Release of 100 Pens
Aqua Regia (Latin for “regal water” or “royal water”) is a mixture of hydrochloric acid and nitric acid. It is a yellow liquid used to some noble metal that alchemists named due to its ability to dissolve gold. The term first appeared in the alchemical text De Inventione Veritatis (On the Discovery of Truth) circa ~1300 ad, where it was produced by combining ammonium chloride with nitric acid. Throughout the time of alchemists, aqua regia was listed in several texts, but it wasn’t until after 1600 that its current form of mixing hydrochloric acid with nitric acid was the preferred recipe. Today it is used in a process to produce the purest (99.999%) form of gold. It is also used in etching items or cleaning laboratory glass of residual metals.
The Aqua Regia Vertex Special Release doesn’t have any red in it, rather the material is a high-quality European resin with an opaque dark green base swirled with shimmering gold. It’s these layers and swirls of gold that drew us to this name due to the resemblance to rivers of gold. They’re nearly liquid in how fluid they look in the dark green base, with shiny flecks blazing out of the material and dark black lines keeping them from spilling over into the green. This is a truly exceptional material, the green polishes to a clean base that is shiny but doesn’t take away from the amazing brilliance of the gold woven through the material. We’ve sourced a unique graphic from Karas Collaborator Ishmael, that’s been laser-etched on the machined box lids and also touches on the granite or rock theme of this release. When customizing your purchase you’ll be prompted to select from four different grip options, one of these is brand new for this release: Coke Bottle, Dark Green Semi-Translucent, Orange Transparent, and Smoke Transparent.
The Vertex is our second release in our Signature Series which is built around using plastics and other resins as the main parts of the pen. From the beginning, we wanted to create something that looked, felt, and functioned differently than other pens on the market. The Vertex’s basic design is that of a classic eyedropper pocket fountain pen. It functions with only four parts: a cap, barrel, grip, and nib. Simply add ink to the reservoir, and you can happily write pages of notes before you need to refill. Eyedropper pens can be tricky and messy, and we wanted to eliminate some of those concerns. During the engineering phase, we implemented designs of custom-fit o-rings to eliminate the need for silicone grease to seal the grip and nib areas. We wanted a smooth transition from grip to barrel, so we moved traditional breakpoint from the section back, and using a third o-ring in the cap adapted slip cap functionality for the pen. The longer grip section allows for the use of an “ink window” with transparent materials which adds a little flair to the pen. The Vertex looks and feels streamlined and aerodynamic with soft tapers, a cigar-shaped body, and a concave cap top; the Vertex is at once futuristic and reminiscent of the classic lines of Parker and Sheaffer pens. The Vertex is the latest step in our Design.History.Technology influenced Signature Series.
Comes standard with a Bock polished steel nib, with upgrades in titanium and 14k gold when in stock. The #6 nibs units are manufactured by Peter Bock in Germany. Also included with each pen is a 2 ml soft pipette and 2 black Monteverde ink cartridges. Each pen is designed and machined, by us, in the USA.
