EDK Limited Release
Our test of Cerakote colors and finishes continues with a brand new color that was suggested by our Cerakote applicator, Black Gold (H-375). If you’re a fan of the Burnt Bronze, this is a similar color that Cerakote describes as “a deep brown charcoal metallic with a satin finish”. I described it as a gold metallic coat was sprayed on very lightly and then a flat brown was layered on top in a way that allows the gold to shine through at certain times. The other thing it reminded me of, was the scene from The Hobbit where Smaug the dragon stands up from the pile of gold and there are pieces of gold stuck in between his scales giving him a luminous shimmer; hence the name Black Dragon for this release. The best thing about this finish is that it has that really nice texture that provides a nice grippable surface for the pen. We’ve laser marked the Speedsters and pens with two dragons facing each other holding our K Shield logo between them. The art is super cool and is lasered on the bottom of the Speedster and the side of the pens.
The Black Dragon EDK Limited Release features professionally applied Black Gold (H-375) Cerakote. Our standard ringed EDK lower profile was selected for this release as it is the only grip option currently available on the EDK. The Cerakote has been applied in a uniform fashion leaving a finish that looks great but feels even better in the hand. The surface features a satin charcoal brown with a gold metallic that sparkles in the light but isn’t slippery or shiny at all. This Cerakote is a nice even finish that has no gloss to it and provides a great tactile grip. This release is limited in quantity and will not be re-released at any time. We’ve selected a matte black anodized clip and the black chrome click mechanism for this release. Ships with a Schmidt P8126 refill with black ink.

*Cerakote is a temperature-cured, spray-on ceramic coating that is used in a variety of industries including automotive, defense, outdoors, and sports. While Cerakote has been tested and rated at the highest levels of hardness, corrosion resistance, flexibility, and heat; it is not nearly as durable as anodize. Like all coatings, Cerakote can and will naturally wear when carried against objects of a similar or greater hardness than the Cerakote. Cerakote can chip or crack if dropped onto hard surfaces. Be advised this surface finish will wear over time, and is not as resistant to wear or damage as our standard anodize.
The EDK is made from 6061-T aluminum on our CNC lathes and Swiss machining centers, in Mesa, Arizona. Schmidt refills are manufactured in Germany.
