Speedster V2 Limited Release
Our test of Cerakote colors and finishes continues with a brand new color that was suggested by our Cerakote applicator, Black Gold (H-375). If you’re a fan of the Burnt Bronze, this is a similar color that Cerakote describes as “a deep brown charcoal metallic with a satin finish”. I described it as a gold metallic coat was sprayed on very lightly and then a flat brown was layered on top in a way that allows the gold to shine through at certain times. The other thing it reminded me of, was the scene from The Hobbit where Smaug the dragon stands up from the pile of gold and there are pieces of gold stuck in between his scales giving him a luminous shimmer; hence the name Black Dragon for this release. The best thing about this finish is that it has that really nice texture that provides a nice grippable surface for the pen. We’ve laser marked the Speedsters and pens with two dragons facing each other holding our K Shield logo between them. The art is super cool and is lasered on the bottom of the Speedster and the side of the pens.
The Black Dragon Speedster V2 is our latest Cerakote Speedster with anodized wheels in the V2 size. What changed, you ask? The biggest change is the overall size of the Speedster V2 itself. The initial Speedster was nearly 7 inches long from wheel-to-wheel (6″ body length) and weighed 1.85 pounds. The Speedster V2 is 4.65 inches from wheel-to-wheel (4.25″ body length) and weighs 0.65 pounds. The wheel system for the Cerakote and custom-painted versions features thread-in on axles that do move, as opposed to the version we released in Meteor Grey which did not roll. This may cause some wear on the Cerakote at the base of the wheels, but we had a lot of comments requesting rolling wheels, so we changed it. The body of the Speedster V2 is milled from 6061-T aluminum, in a multi-step process before being polished and anodized in bright blue. The wheels are machined on our lathes from 6061-T aluminum, after which time we’ve cleaned and deburred them. The Black Dragon Speedster V2 features the same Black Gold (H-375) Cerakote as the Black Dragon limited release pens making for the perfect set, expertly applied in a uniform coat over the body of the car. We’ve anodized the wheels for this release in a satin black, giving this Speedster an amazing look that makes this release look amazing. Ships in bubble wrap, in a small box.
