The new Mk II profile was initially a design element added to our prototype release of the Retraktable mechanical pencil. Initial feedback from early users moved this new grip profile from a prototype to a standard option on the Retraktable, but also a special release option for the Bolt and EDK. Why Mk II? Mk II (later Mk 2) was the nomenclature of the fragmentation anti-personnel type hand grenade used by the United States from 1918 through the 1960s. Often referred to as the “pineapple grenade” due to its strange outward appearance, it was also called the “frag”. Our Mk II has a similar “frag” pattern milled into the grip area that provides a nice tactile feel and looks cool too.
This month we’re switching things up. The Mk II profile is really maximized with the matte anodize finish, BUT some were sent back mistakenly in a gloss black finish. They looked WAY too cool to just set aside in our museum, so we sent out a few extras so we could do this special bundle. This features the Bolt V2 and EDK V2 with gloss black anodized aluminum parts, black Torx+ fasteners, and a black chrome click mechanism for the EDK. It may just be the best-looking bundle we’ve ever released. The Bolt V2 ships with a black Pilot G2 refill while the EDK V2 features the Schmidt P8126 refill. These are perfect options for someone who really digs the all black look, but wants something a bit shinier than our standard Ultra Black pens.
The EDK V2 and Bolt V2 are made from 6061-T aluminum on our CNC lathes and Swiss machining centers, in Mesa, Arizona. Schmidt refills are manufactured in Germany. Pilot refills are manufactured in Japan.
