Camp Karas ’24 Limited Release
Grab your backpack and pup tent, put on your hiking boots, make sure to bring enough water and snacks for the trip because we’re on the way to Camp Karas 2024. After a five year hiatus, we’re back on the road, headed north to the Coconino National Forest, a 1.86 million square acre National Forest in northern Arizona in the area of Flagstaff, Arizona. The Coconino National Forest ranges in elevation from 2,600 feet to over 12,000 feet at the top of Humphrey’s Peak. It includes a diverse landscape including desert, ponderosa pines, mesas, flatlands, alpine tundra, and even ancient volcanic peaks. We’ll be featuring several locations, features, flora, and fauna that can be found in Coconino National Forest. The first of which is Shadow Mountain. Shadow Mountain is the northern most cinder cone of the San Francisco volcanic field, an area of volcanoes north of Flagstaff, Arizona that covers 1,800 square miles. A cinder cone is a steep conical hill of loose volcanic rock fragments that builds up around a volcanic vent. Shadow mountain has a high makeup of basalt, an igneous rock that is often grey, and in this area varies from light grey to an almost blue-ish black; hence the Shadow Mountain moniker.
The “Shadow Mountain” INK features a brand new anodize color sourced specifically for this release, dark blue with an almost black/purple undertone. We were lucky to find this rich, deep color from our current anodizer and knew right away we’d want to use it in a release. We immediately began planning for the release in conjunction with Camp Karas. To tie the pen together, we chose matte grey for the clip and the frag grip. These two colors showcase the range of colors the Shadow Mountain basalt fields can include. Like the previous Camp Karas releases, we’ve created some badge style icons for each release and a special Camp Karas icon as well. The Camp Karas logo for this year is a variation of our State Route road signs that features the outline of the state of Arizona. The number 24 is in large font in place of the state route number, and Camp Karas is at the top of the icon in place of the word “Arizona”. The badge icon for the “Shadow Mountain” release is a pentagon border with a mountain range and moon in the background and a desert field with a few saguaro cacti in the foreground. This is a limited edition release that will not be repeated as an INK fountain pen. You’ll be prompted to select from a variety of Bock nibs in stainless steel when you check out. Ships with custom Camp Karas 24 sticker sheet.
The INK is our full-sized, flagship machined fountain pen that initially was made from aluminum, brass, and copper and is now being expanded to include a wide variety of thermoplastics and other resins. The grip sections are available in several finish and material options so you can customize your pen even more. The thread-on cap uses triple-start threads to securely attach itself to the pen and to allow the removal of the cap with only 1.5 revolutions. The thermoplastic and resin INK fountain pens do not utilize the Sta-Fast cap mechanism with internal o-ring due to the pen capping well and staying secure during pocket carry as well as the limited wall thickness for machining the o-ring groove. The #6 nibs units are manufactured by Peter Bock in Germany. Also included with each pen is a Schmidt K5 cartridge converter and 2 black Monteverde ink cartridges. Each pen is designed and machined, by us, here in the USA. The INK was our first fountain pen, and remains the sole fountain pen in our original Kustoms Line of writing instruments.
The CK24 “Shadow Mountain” INK is designed and manufactured in Mesa, Arizona. Bock nibs are manufactured in Germany. Black Monteverde ink cartridges are manufactured in Austria. Schmidt K5 Converters are manufactured in Germany.
