FATHER’S DAY SMALL BATCH RELEASE
The new Mk II profile was initially a design element added to our prototype release of the Retraktable mechanical pencil. Initial feedback from early users moved this new grip profile from a prototype to a standard option on the Retraktable, but also a special release option for the Bolt and EDK. Why Mk II? Mk II (later Mk 2) was the nomenclature of the fragmentation anti-personnel type hand grenade used by the United States from 1918 through the 1960s. Often referred to as the “pineapple grenade” due to its strange outward appearance, it was also called the “frag”. Our Mk II has a similar “frag” pattern milled into the grip area that provides a nice tactile feel and looks cool too.
We returned to a finish that hasn’t been used in several years, but this time we did a little upgrade. By partnering with a local Cerakote* applicator, we’ve been able to source some amazing new finishes for our pens. For Father’s Day, we wanted to do something special that looked and felt awesome. It was an easy decision to use our new Mk II frag Bolt; we selected Coyote Tan for the Cerakote color on the body of the pen. This satin finish Cerakote has great tactile feel that adds some grip to the pen; combined with the frag pattern, this is one pen you’re not going to drop. We’ve used black anodized 6061 aluminum** clips and knobs to finish off this pen as well as black fasteners. Ships with a Pilot G2 refill in black.

The Bolt V2 is made from 6061-T aluminum on our CNC lathes and Swiss machining centers, in Mesa, Arizona. Cerakote is outsourced to an applicator in Mesa, Arizona. Pilot refills are made in Japan.
*Cerakote is a temperature-cured, spray-on ceramic coating that is used in a variety of industries including automotive, defense, outdoors, and sports. While Cerakote has been tested and rated at the highest levels of hardness, corrosion resistance, flexibility, and heat; it is not nearly as durable as anodize. Like all coatings, Cerakote can and will naturally wear when carried against objects of a similar or greater hardness than the Cerakote. Cerakote can chip or crack if dropped onto hard surfaces. Be advised this surface finish will wear over time, and is not as resistant to wear or damage as our standard anodize.
**6061 aluminum clips are not as stiff as our stainless steel clips. They have more spring to them and can snap or bend if caught and pulled hard on something. They are more than adequate and stronger than many clips used on metal pens made out of lighter material. The anodize will wear over time, but it is more robust than the black nitride we use on our standard black clips.
