Garm Vertex Limited Release

SKU: BUNDLED-GARM Category: Tags: ,

Description

Garm is a glacier on the southeastern coast of Greenland, specifically part of the King Frederick VI Coast. That’s not all, Garm (Garmr) is also part of Norse mythology, he is a wolf or dog that guards the gates of Hel. He is often attested as heralding Ragnarok. The duality of the word Garm, iceberg or Norse hellhound, works well with this material as we moved back and forth between concepts when trying to find a suitable name for this unique material. The blue and white blend and mix like the blue and white of the ice and water where this glacier flows with a hint of green for the strangely named Greenland. Alternatively, the material brought to mind similar thoughts as the Skadi material, the frozen north with its tales of brave warriors, ice giants, and world trees. We settled on a name that encompassed those elements, and the material.

The Garm Vertex Limited Release features material created by our own Zoe in our shop here in Mesa, Arizona. With her talents and eye for mixing colors, she created this amazing resin with a blue base swirled well with white then added elements of green at the ends of the resin. Once machined, sanded, and polished, the depth of the material can be appreciated. The blue and green have fine mica added that trick the eye into seeing movement, while the white has been left flat and mostly opaque but sections of the blue pull into the white and add another layer that loses the chatoyance and ends up a lighter blue. It’s an absolutely amazing-looking material and feels great in the hand as well. The finished product was absolutely amazing, and we immediately knew we’d have trouble finding the right name for this pen. With the help of Ishmael, we decided to expand our Mythology Inspired Vertex releases and break them into two main categories: Norse and Greco-Roman. The Garm Vertex Special Release is our second official Norse mythology-inspired Vertex, though it also takes inspiration from the ocean in the form of the Garm glacier. We ended up being a bit indecisive on this one, but the material simply shines.  When you select your Garm, you’ll be prompted to choose from four grip section options: Dark Green Transparent, Light Green (Coke Bottle) Transparent, Mint Translucent, or Teal Transparent. The ever-capable Ishmael Salleh has created some custom artwork once again featuring some amazing Norse-themed images and styles to convey the idea we were going for. The lids look amazing with his artwork lasered into them.

The Vertex is our second release in our Signature Series which is built around using plastics and other resins as the main parts of the pen. From the beginning, we wanted to create something that looked, felt, and functioned differently than other pens on the market. The Vertex’s basic design is that of a classic eyedropper pocket fountain pen. It functions with only four parts: a cap, barrel, grip, and nib. Simply add ink to the reservoir, and you can happily write pages of notes before you need to refill. Eyedropper pens can be tricky and messy, and we wanted to eliminate some of those concerns. During the engineering phase, we implemented designs of custom-fit o-rings to eliminate the need for silicone grease to seal the grip and nib areas. We wanted a smooth transition from grip to barrel, so we moved traditional breakpoint from the section back, and using a third o-ring in the cap adapted slip cap functionality for the pen. The longer grip section allows for the use of an “ink window” with transparent materials which adds a little flair to the pen. The Vertex looks and feels streamlined and aerodynamic with soft tapers, a cigar-shaped body, and a concave cap top; the Vertex is at once futuristic and reminiscent of the classic lines of Parker and Sheaffer pens. The Vertex is the latest step in our Design.History.Technology influenced Signature Series.

Comes standard with a Bock polished steel nib, with upgrades in titanium and 14k gold when in stock. The #6 nibs units are manufactured by Peter Bock in Germany. Also included with each pen is a 2 ml soft pipette and 2 black Monteverde ink cartridges. Each pen is designed and machined, by us, in the USA.
