Special Release of 80 Pens
We find inspiration in all sorts of places. Experiences, images, sounds, smells, conversations. Sometimes there’s an immediate connection between one thing in our lives and something new we’re experiencing. Even if those two things have nothing directly in common. That was the case with the material used for this Vertex release. When we received the rods from The Turner’s Workshop and started inspecting them; this material was coated in a strange white chalk-like residue that hid a lot of the beauty of the material. We set it aside and started with other material that “looked” nicer. In fact, this was the final round rod stock we machined, and when we walked back around to inspect the first machined parts; the beauty of this material really popped! Immediately the words to a great rock and roll song popped into our heads, and we had a name for this release. It’s an unofficial homage to one of the best rock bands of the last 20 years, and one that’s often playing on someone’s radio or streaming service in the shop.
The Gold on the Ceiling Vertex Special Release uses sourced material from a European manufacturer that we were informed was NOS. It machines beautifully, revealing a dark brown, nearly black base material that has swirls of brilliant gold fleck throughout. The gold swirls vary from thin lines to thick ribbons and even a few with just a light “sprinkling” of gold fleck. When sanded and polished the finished product is a truly amazing example of both the material and the dimensions and lines of the Vertex. We’ve sourced a unique graphic from Karas Collaborator Ishmael, that’s been laser-etched on the machined box lids and gets you in the mood to rock out at your favorite concert venue to some awesome tunes. When customizing your purchase you’ll be prompted to select from four different grip options, one of these is brand new for this release: Coke Bottle, Brown Transparent, and Smoke Transparent.
The Vertex is our second release in our Signature Series which is built around using plastics and other resins as the main parts of the pen. From the beginning, we wanted to create something that looked, felt and functioned differently than other pens on the market. The Vertex’s basic design is that of a classic eyedropper pocket fountain pen. It functions with only four parts: a cap, barrel, grip, and nib. Simply add ink to the reservoir, and you can happily write pages of notes before you need to refill. Eyedropper pens can be tricky and messy, and we wanted to eliminate some of those concerns. During the engineering phase, we implemented designs of custom-fit o-rings to eliminate the need for silicone grease to seal the grip and nib areas. We wanted a smooth transition from grip to barrel, so we moved traditional breakpoint from the section back, and using a third o-ring in the cap adapted slip cap functionality for the pen. The longer grip section allows for the use of an “ink window” with transparent materials which adds a little flair to the pen. The Vertex looks and feels streamlined and aerodynamic with soft tapers, a cigar-shaped body, and a concave cap top; the Vertex is at once futuristic and reminiscent of the classic lines of Parker and Sheaffer pens. The Vertex is the latest step in our Design.History.Technology influenced Signature Series.
Comes standard with a Bock polished steel nib, with upgrades in titanium and 14k gold when in stock. The #6 nibs units are manufactured by Peter Bock in Germany. Also included with each pen is a 2 ml soft pipette and 2 black Monteverde ink cartridges. Each pen is designed and machined, by us, in the USA.
