Special Edition – 75 Pens Available

Kingfishers or Alcedinidae are a family of small to medium-sized, brightly colored birds in the order Coraciiformes. They have a cosmopolitan distribution, with most species found in the tropical regions of Africa, Asia, and Oceania. The family contains 114 species and is divided into three subfamilies and 19 genera. All kingfishers have large heads, long, sharp, pointed bills, short legs, and stubby tails. Most species have bright plumage with only small differences between the sexes. Most species are tropical in distribution, and a slight majority are found only in forests. They consume a wide range of prey usually caught by swooping down from a perch. While kingfishers are usually thought to live near rivers and eat fish, many species live away from water and eat small invertebrates.” – Source Wikipedia

The Kingfisher Vertex Special Release is the latest Vertex special release featuring premium European resin. This time we’ve used Erinoid Ltd’s Impero Gold acrylate as the material of choice. Similar to “chip or marble” celluloid acetate, this material features blue, amber, and gold chips or flecks throughout the material. The amber and gold have a shimmery chatoyance that is simply stunning when the light hits it. The name draws a parallel between the Kingfisher and the color scheme of this material. Many species of the Kingfisher have blue colored wings and heads and orange or amber breasts. The Azure Kingfisher superficially looks very similar to the colors of this Vertex. When you select your grip option you’ll be given the opportunity to select from transparent acrylic options in blue, amber, or orange; allowing you to customize your pen a little more.

The Vertex is our second release in our Signature Series which is built around using plastics and other resins as the main parts of the pen. From the beginning, we wanted to create something that looked, felt and functioned differently than other pens on the market. The Vertex’s basic design is that of a classic eyedropper pocket fountain pen, however, it will also accept a standard international cartridge or standard international converter if you’re disinclined to use it as an eyedropper. It functions with only four parts: a cap, barrel, grip, and nib. Simply add ink to the reservoir, and you can happily write pages of notes before you need to refill. Eyedropper pens can be tricky and messy, and we wanted to eliminate some of those concerns. During the engineering phase, we implemented designs of custom fit o-rings to eliminate the need for silicone grease to seal the grip and nib areas. We wanted a smooth transition from grip to barrel, so we moved traditional breakpoint from the section back, and using a third o-ring in the cap adapted slip cap functionality for the pen. The longer grip section allows for the use of an “ink window” with transparent materials which adds a little flair to the pen. The Vertex looks and feels streamlined and aerodynamic. With soft tapers, a cigar-shaped body, and a concave cap top; the Vertex is at once futuristic but also reminiscent of the classic lines of Parker and Sheaffer pens. The Vertex is the latest step in our Design.History.Technology influenced Signature Series.

Ships in a machined aluminum box we have designed specifically for the Vertex fountain pen, custom foam inserts have been sourced for the box, and the lid has been logo’d on the outside with Vertex logo while the inside of the lid is custom marked with instructions on filling and care of the pen. Comes standard with a Bock polished steel nib, with upgrades in titanium, and 14k gold when in stock. The #6 nibs units are manufactured by Peter Bock in Germany. Also included with each pen is a 2 ml soft pipette and a Schmidt K5 international standard converter. Each pen is designed and machined, by us, in the USA.
