Special Edition – 40 Pens Available
Marmalade isn’t your normal jam or jelly. It’s a preserve that includes parts of the rind of the fruit and while it’s often cooked with sugar, it’s nowhere near as sweet as most jams and jellies. Marmalade is a refined spread with layers and depth that balance the sharp bite of citrus with a dash of sweetness and then adds a “chew” to the entire experience. It’s not for the faint of heart but it’s a transcendent dining experience if you give it a chance.
The Marmalade Vertex Special Release is both new and old, in that we’ve had a version of this pen going all the way back to the Vertex Prototypes. That being said, every production run of these pens has been relatively small in part because of damage to the material when we machined it. The material is a resin from Delta that they named Terra Cotta, and while it’s amazing to work with once it’s been machined if you’re not careful in how you machined it, it does chip out easily. The first run ended up being 25 pens that we predominantly sold at Pen Shows. The second batch, originally planned for 75 pens ended up being 40 pens and was sold exclusively to the Karas Pen Club members. This latest batch is also 40 pens, but we’re selling them via the website in a “first come, first served” fashion. The material is a “chip/marble” with multiple shades of orange, bright lines of chatoyance throughout, and a shiny, sparkly finish that to this day remains a classic. It’s still our favorite of all the Vertex pens we’ve released. The Marmalade Vertex Special Release will be available with four grip section options: Orange, Light Green (Coke Bottle), Sea Glass Green, and Smoke. Be aware, we are discontinuing the Sea Glass Green Vertex Grips, this is likely the final pen to feature that grip section for the foreseeable future.

The Vertex is our second release in our Signature Series which is built around using plastics and other resins as the main parts of the pen. From the beginning, we wanted to create something that looked, felt, and functioned differently than other pens on the market. The Vertex’s basic design is that of a classic eyedropper pocket fountain pen, however, it will also accept a standard international cartridge or standard international converter if you’re disinclined to use it as an eyedropper. It functions with only four parts: a cap, barrel, grip, and nib. Simply add ink to the reservoir, and you can happily write pages of notes before you need to refill. Eyedropper pens can be tricky and messy, and we wanted to eliminate some of those concerns. During the engineering phase, we implemented designs of custom fit o-rings to eliminate the need for silicone grease to seal the grip and nib areas. We wanted a smooth transition from grip to barrel, so we moved traditional breakpoint from the section back, and using a third o-ring in the cap adapted slip cap functionality for the pen. The longer grip section allows for the use of an “ink window” with transparent materials which adds a little flair to the pen. The Vertex looks and feels streamlined and aerodynamic. With soft tapers, a cigar-shaped body, and a concave cap top; the Vertex is at once futuristic but also reminiscent of the classic lines of Parker and Sheaffer pens. The Vertex is the latest step in our Design.History.Technology influenced Signature Series.
Ships in a machined aluminum box we have designed specifically for the Vertex fountain pen, custom foam inserts have been sourced for the box, and the lid has been logo’d on the outside with Vertex logo while the inside of the lid is custom marked with instructions on filling and care of the pen. Comes standard with a Bock polished steel nib, with upgrades in titanium, and 14k gold when in stock. The #6 nibs units are manufactured by Peter Bock in Germany. Also included with each pen is a 2 ml soft pipette and a Schmidt K5 international standard converter. Each pen is designed and machined, by us, in the USA.
