The new Mk II profile was initially a design element added to our prototype release of the Retraktable mechanical pencil. Initial feedback from early users moved this new grip profile from a prototype to a standard option on the Retraktable, but also a special release option for the Bolt and EDK. Why Mk II? Mk II (later Mk 2) was the nomenclature of the fragmentation anti-personnel type hand grenade used by the United States from 1918 through the 1960s. Often referred to as the “pineapple grenade” due to its strange outward appearance, it was also called the “frag”. Our Mk II has a similar “frag” pattern milled into the grip area that provides a nice tactile feel and looks cool too.
Our second most popular colorway has made it’s way to the Mk II Bolt; matte red with black hardware. For some reason, this finish has become one of the most requested among our special release colorways. Red and black look amazing together especially when they’re done in a matte finish that gives them a muted, but still aggressive look. The body of the pen has been heavy-tumbled the aluminum before sending them to the anodizer, so the surface does retain a nice texture that allows for great grip. We’ve used our 6061 aluminum clip for this that has been anodized a matte black that matches the matte black anodized knob. Specially sourced Torx Plus fasteners attach the clip, while our standard hex fastener is used to secure the knob. The pen ships with a black Pilot G2 refill.
