SMALL BATCH SPECIAL RELEASE
In our latest round of analyzing our current offerings, we had initially thought to do another run of our standard GroovEDK lower barrels. But as we tested a few more options we decided this manufacturing run we’d try something different. We’ve opted to change the “dished” groove into a flat-bottomed wide groove. We weren’t feeling just the wider groove, so we increased the feed rate, which changes the speed at which the part machines and touched the bottom of the groove leaving nice micro-rings in each groove. Hence the term “speed-groove”. This treatment is similar to the Render K grips that have this same textured micro-rings and adds a nice grip to the anodized aluminum.
We returned to a finish that hasn’t been used in several years, but this time we did a little upgrade. By partnering with a local Cerakote applicator, we’ve sourced some truly unique Speed-Groove EDKs. These Speed-Groove EDK V2 pens were professionally coated with Cerakote Parakeet Green H-331 with a Mil thickness of 2-3. This is an awesome bright, almost neon, green with the highest-rated hardness for ceramic coatings. The Cerakote was applied uniformly to the upper and lower barrels of the pen, while the click mechanism is our standard black chrome, over stainless steel and the clip and screws are our standard black nitride* stainless steel. The new speed grooves on the lower barrel feel great with this finish and provide a comfortable grip without causing any hand fatigue. Ships with a Schmidt P8126 capless rollerball refill in black.
50 pens available
The EDK V2 is made from 6061-T aluminum on our CNC lathes and Swiss machining centers, in Mesa, Arizona. Cerakote is outsourced to an applicator in Mesa, Arizona. Schmidt refills are manufactured in Germany.
*Nitride is a thermochemical process of “controlled corrosion” used to harden the surface of steel, dry to touch oil is used in the finishing process to further prevent corrosion. The finished process can vary in color from brown to black with a matte finish and some chalkiness.
