Constellation Limited Edition Series #2
Initially, the concept for this series of pens came about several years ago when we were researching celestial bodies; specifically interstellar clouds, and astronomical objects. We decided to use nebulae as an inspiration when we decided to make our resins and Zoe set to work formulating a plan to pull this off. During the process, the focus changed slightly due to how the pens from each batch were coming out and we decided to look to a different set of astronomical features for this release. Using star charts, we’ve chosen lesser-known constellations as a starting point, then we’ve chosen deep-sky objects as cataloged by John Louis Emil Dreyer for the specific reference points of each Limited Edition. Each Limited Edition Release of 15 pens showcases a color-shift from as we move through each pen, ranging from purples to blue to oranges and pinks. This is to capture the essence of how these deep-sky objects are often photographed using different filters that bring out different colors.
The NGC 2237 Vertex Limited Edition is manufactured from in-house poured resin in variety of colors with suspended mica of different sizes. Each pen is completely unique in the color swirl, pigmentation, mica presence, chatoyance, and overall look. The Constellation Limited Edition Series #2 continues with NGC 2237 which is part of the nebulous region of the Rosette Nebula (Caldwell 49). NGC 2237 lies 5,000 lightyears distant from earth, and the entire Rosette Nebula spans 130 lightyears. The nebula takes its name from the photographs of the radiation which look very similar to a rosette (a rose shaped decoration). NGC 2237 is often represented in images as a large pink glowing rose-shaped image though some images also have the edges colored in blue or teal. The spectrum of colors represented in these pens have these same colors though there is also purple, green, and gold present in the pens. When you select your NG 2237 you’ll be prompted to choose from three grip section options: Blue, Coke Bottle, Mint, Purple, Red, Smoke or Teal. The ever-capable Ishmael Salleh has created another piece of custom artwork utilizing the specific star chart where NGC 2237 can be found along with stylized Karas Pen Co logos. *Pens will be chosen at random when purchased, please do not ask for specific pens.*
The Vertex is our second release in our Signature Series which is built around using plastics and other resins as the main parts of the pen. From the beginning, we wanted to create something that looked, felt, and functioned differently than other pens on the market. The Vertex’s basic design is that of a classic eyedropper pocket fountain pen. It functions with only four parts: a cap, barrel, grip, and nib. Simply add ink to the reservoir, and you can happily write pages of notes before you need to refill. Eyedropper pens can be tricky and messy, and we wanted to eliminate some of those concerns. During the engineering phase, we implemented designs of custom-fit o-rings to eliminate the need for silicone grease to seal the grip and nib areas. We wanted a smooth transition from grip to barrel, so we moved traditional breakpoint from the section back, and using a third o-ring in the cap adapted slip cap functionality for the pen. The longer grip section allows for the use of an “ink window” with transparent materials which adds a little flair to the pen. The Vertex looks and feels streamlined and aerodynamic with soft tapers, a cigar-shaped body, and a concave cap top; the Vertex is at once futuristic and reminiscent of the classic lines of Parker and Sheaffer pens. The Vertex is the latest step in our Design.History.Technology influenced Signature Series.
Comes standard with a Bock polished steel nib, with upgrades in titanium and 14k gold when in stock. The #6 nibs units are manufactured by Peter Bock in Germany. Also included with each pen is a 2 ml soft pipette and 2 black Monteverde ink cartridges. Each pen is designed and machined, by us, in the USA.
