Description

Limited Availabilty

With the upcoming re-introduction of the Decograph fountain pens, Zoe has been experimenting with new resin colors and processes. Primarily these “prototypes” have been relegated to the Decograph and were released at Pen Shows, however, she snuck a few Vertexes in as well. This is the third Vertex Prototype, hence the V-0003. This was one of three Vertex Prototypes slated to be released at the Chicago Pen Show, sadly for us we were unable to attend but lucky for you!

This color prototype consists of a white base with red and blue swirls. The red and blue swirls have been populated with quite a lot of mica causing them to really stand out once polished. During the mixing process, the timing was off slightly and the white diluted the red and blue slightly, causing the colors to vary from red and blue, to any combination of red, blue, pink, and purple. It’s a very different color combination than we’ve done in the past, but the finished product looks amazing with our new polishing process. The effect in some areas is very close the color-changing paint seen on some cars as the blue can shift from purple to red depending on how the light shines on each area. Speaking of shine, we’re testing out a new polishing process that truly brings the luster out of these pens. When you check out select from all of our in-stock polycarbonate and aluminum grip sections, though we think the following look best: Transparent Coke Bottle, Transparent Blue, Transparent Smoke, and Transparent Purple. You’ll also have the option to select from a variety of steel nibs, with titanium upgrades available. Ships in our machined Vertex box with lasered Vertex Prototype V-0003 lid.

The Vertex is our second release in our Signature Series which is built around using plastics and other resins as the main parts of the pen. From the beginning, we wanted to create something that looked, felt, and functioned differently than other pens on the market. The Vertex’s basic design is that of a classic eyedropper pocket fountain pen. It functions with only four parts: a cap, barrel, grip, and nib. Simply add ink to the reservoir, and you can happily write pages of notes before you need to refill. Eyedropper pens can be tricky and messy, and we wanted to eliminate some of those concerns. During the engineering phase, we implemented designs of custom-fit o-rings to eliminate the need for silicone grease to seal the grip and nib areas. We wanted a smooth transition from grip to barrel, so we moved traditional breakpoint from the section back, and using a third o-ring in the cap adapted slip cap functionality for the pen. The longer grip section allows for the use of an “ink window” with transparent materials which adds a little flair to the pen. The Vertex looks and feels streamlined and aerodynamic with soft tapers, a cigar-shaped body, and a concave cap top; the Vertex is at once futuristic and reminiscent of the classic lines of Parker and Sheaffer pens. The Vertex is the latest step in our Design.History.Technology influenced Signature Series.

Comes standard with a Bock polished steel nib, with upgrades in titanium and 14k gold when in stock. The #6 nibs units are manufactured by Peter Bock in Germany. Also included with each pen is a 2 ml soft pipette and 2 black Monteverde ink cartridges. Each pen is designed and machined, by us, in the USA.
