Based on our Retrakt pen, the Retraktable Standard is a production mechanical pencil featuring a Schmidt DSM 2007 steel mechanical pencil insert. Our Retraktable Standard pencil is made up of three main components that we manufacture in-house: lower grip, upper body, and click mechanism. For the production release of the Retraktable we have various grip profiles and anodize options. The gloss anodize options are only available on the Ringed Retraktable Standard mechanical pencils. The production Retraktable Standard pencil utilizes our custom-designed and machined click mechanism which we manufacture. We’re also using our new stamped 6061 aluminum clips*. The Retraktable Standard is everything you’d expect from a Karas writing instrument meant to complement our existing pens: uniquely designed, comfortable to use, and manufactured to last.
It was always the plan to use the pencil version of the Retrakt R-type as our standard production variant. This mechanical pencil would be available in a few standard color and material options on the website all year long, similar to our Kustoms Line pens. In fact, the Ringed Retraktable is a member of the Kustoms Line as it’s first pencil. For the production release of the Ringed Retraktable we are offering three anodized aluminum options all in gloss (bright dip) anodize finish: Black, Blue, and Red. The Retraktable is designed to complement all of our pens, but specifically as a pair to the Retrakt V2 pen. While the Black Ringed Retraktable is a perfect match to the All Black Retrakt V2, there is some variance in the Blue and Red Ringed Retraktables due to anodizing batches not being perfect color matches; however, the Ringed Retraktabes in those colors still look great with our entire Retrakt V2 line. For the 2022 Re-Launch we’re adding a Grey Ringed Retraktable as a new option, full coverage gloss grey anodize on the body with the silver push button mechanism and clip. The Ringed Retraktable features ten rings machined into the grip portion of the lower barrel to provide for a better grip when writing. The aluminum clip and push button mechanism have been anodized in clear over a polished aluminum surface. When checking out you’ll have the option to select from a 0.5mm or 0.7mm lead insert thread-in mechanism. Each pencil comes with a Pentel Hi-Polymer Eraser which we find to be one of the best erasers on the market, and rather than engineering some eraser-pocket on the pencil with a nearly unusable eraser we’d simply provide you with a quality eraser.

*6061 aluminum clips are not as stiff as our stainless steel clips. They have more spring to them and can snap or bend if caught and pulled hard on something. They are more than adequate and stronger than many clips used on metal pens made out of lighter material. The anodize will wear over time, but it is more robust than the black nitride we use on our standard black clips.
