Turquoise Retrakt & Ringed Retraktable Set

It’s one of those banner days around the shop when you can bring back something that you thought was gone for good, and today is one of those days. Way back in 2016, we began applying ceramic firearms/automotive coating (KG Industries brand) to some of our pens in small batches. We started with that company’s 2400 series Turquoise, and we couldn’t keep those pens in stock. The color and finish were something completely unique in terms of a finish option for our pens. Applied lightly, with an airbrush we got a gloss coat of beautiful turquoise that was then oven hardened for a relatively durable finish.

Recently we’ve switched to using Cerakote* brand ceramic coating which provides better hardness, more color options, and is applied professionally by an official Cerakote applicator. Cerakote expands their color options frequently, and they added a color called Aztec Teal H-349 to their catalog recently. It looked like a nice color to add since we’re always getting requests for teal and turquoise shades. We sent off a few styles for this color and they came back looking amazing. Not only that, this color is VERY close to our 2400 series Turquoise pens. It’s so similar that set side-by-side they NEARLY match. The biggest difference is the current Turquoise (Aztec Teal) is a satin finish while the original 2400 series was a gloss finish.

This set features both the Turquoise Retrakt V2 and Turquoise Ringed Retraktable together as a pen and pencil set. The Turquosie Set is specially priced when purchased together for a little added savings. The finish on these two items is a uniform, satin coat that provides great texture for improved grip and a beautiful look that we can’t get with anodize. The Retrakt V2 features stainless steel hardware, with a black G2 refill. The Retraktable features silver anodized hardware, your choice of 0.5mm or 0.7mm lead, and ships with a hi-polymer eraser.

*Cerakote is a temperature-cured, spray-on ceramic coating that is used in a variety of industries including automotive, defense, outdoors, and sports. While Cerakote has been tested and rated at the highest levels of hardness, corrosion resistance, flexibility, and heat; it is not nearly as durable as anodize. Like all coatings, Cerakote can and will naturally wear when carried against objects of a similar or greater hardness than the Cerakote. Cerakote can chip or crack if dropped onto hard surfaces. Be advised this surface finish will wear over time, and is not as resistant to wear or damage as our standard anodize.

*6061 aluminum clips are not as stiff as our stainless steel clips. They have more spring to them and can snap or bend if caught and pulled hard on something. They are more than adequate and stronger than many clips used on metal pens made out of lighter material. The anodize will wear over time, but it is more robust than the black nitride we use on our standard black clips.
