New Jowo Nib version
We’ve wanted to use thermoplastics and resins for the INK fountain pen not just because it’s our flagship fountain pen, but also because we think the unique design will benefit from having a wider array of aesthetic options. Once we sat down and looked at engineering tweaks for the clip and surrounding area on the cap, it didn’t take long for us to land on a few minor changes to make Ultem and other resins not just a possibility but a reality. The Ultem INK was our first release, but we immediately began work on the Delrin version of the INK as well. First out of the gates was the Tumbled Black Delrin INK. Today we unveil the White Delrin INK in all of it’s glory.
The White Delrin INK is currently a Limited Release pen fully machined from white polyoxymethylene (Delrin). White Delrin is the natural color Delrin is manufactured in and machines to a beautiful uniform finish. Unlike the black Delrin, White Delrin does not show scratches or minor abrasions easily and therefore we release it in it’s machined state. Polyoxymethylene (POM) is an engineering thermoplastic used in precision parts requiring high stiffness, low friction, and excellent dimensional stability. Our White Derlin INK is machined from solid POM rod stock; bodies, caps, and grips. We’ve utilized several new machining techniques and custom tooling during the machining process to better ensure the stability of the parts and keep them from changing shape due to the “softer” characteristics of this polymer. The use of thermoplastics for the INK required changes to the cap manufacturing process to ensure we maximized the strength of the clip threading into the milled slot. In a traditional metal INK, the screws slide through the clip and thread into the posterior wall of the milled clip area. For the resin versions, the screw threads into the clip itself and into a guide hole on the posterior wall of the milled clip area. This provides as much strength as possible without changing the overall design of the pen. When purchasing you will be prompted to customize your White Delrin INK with either a matte red clip or a matte black clip. The matte red clip is assembled with stainless steel fasteners while the matte black clip is assembled with black stainless hardware. When checking out you will be prompted to select from a variety of nib options. Ships with a Schmidt K5 converter, two Monteverde black cartridges, and a custom vinyl sticker.
The INK is our full-sized, flagship machined fountain pen that initially was made from aluminum, brass, and copper and is now being expanded to include a wide variety of thermoplastics and other resins. The grip sections are available in several finish and material options so you can customize your pen even more. The thread-on cap uses triple-start threads to securely attach itself to the pen and to allow the removal of the cap with only 1.5 revolutions. The thermoplastic and resin INK fountain pens do not utilize the Sta-Fast cap mechanism with internal o-ring due to the pen capping well and staying secure during pocket carry as well as the limited wall thickness for machining the o-ring groove. The #6 nibs units are sourced from Meister Nibs who purchases them from Jowo in Germany. Also included with each pen is a Schmidt K5 cartridge converter and 2 black Monteverde ink cartridges. Each pen is designed and machined, by us, here in the USA. The INK was our first fountain pen, and remains the sole fountain pen in our original Kustoms Line of writing instruments.
The Delrin INK is designed and manufactured in Mesa, Arizona. Black Monteverde ink cartridges are manufactured in Austria. Schmidt K5 Converters are manufactured in Germany.
