Pocket Modal Limited Release

Our test of Cerakote colors and finishes continues with a color our Cerakote applicator says is so popular he keeps it on hand at all times rather than waiting to order it, Crocodile (H-360). Crocodile Cerakote is a “mossy green color dusted with shimmering gold metallic”, and that’s what showed up on these items. The color is really cool, a uniform green that is flat with a dusting of gold metallic throughout. The effect this creates sparkly, not shiny, without being glossy, and the major benefit is the texture of the Cerakote is not smooth or slick, but has a very tactile feel to it. This is one of my personal favorite colors; it is so cool and the fact that it has such a grippy texture is an added bonus.

The Crocodile Green Pocket Modal Limited Release features professionally applied Crocodile (H-360) Cerakote. Our standard ringed EDK lower profile was selected for this release as it is the only grip option currently available on the Pocket Modal. The Cerakote has been applied in a uniform fashion leaving a finish that looks great but feels even better in the hand. The surface features a flat green with gold metallic that sparkles in the light but isn’t slippery at all. This Cerakote is a nice even finish that has no gloss to it and provides a great tactile grip. This release is limited in quantity and will not be re-released at any time. We’ve selected matte black hardware and a black Delrin slider for this release. Ships with a Schmidt P8126 refill with black ink.

The Modal is made from 6061-T aluminum on our CNC lathes and Swiss machining centers, in Mesa, Arizona. Pilot refills are manufactured in Japan.

While considering how best to allow for the standard Parker style ballpoint refill to be used with the Modal functionality, we debated on whether to simply offer an adapter kit or to go further and have a separate pen. In the long run, we decided to do both because we realized the separate pen could be a smaller pocket pen that was still balanced well and super functional. We used the EDK lower barrels which allows for the use of the traditional Parker style ballpoint refills and the Schmidt P8126/7 refills which are popular liquid ink refill option. This pen is nearly 0.5 inches shorter than the standard Modal, but still fits comfortably in the hand. It’s even easier to carry in a pocket with the pocket carry clip. And it will feature a similar material and color scheme as our EDK pens use, primarily tumbled finishes and matte anodize.
