Camp Karas ’24 Limited Release
Grab your backpack and pup tent, put on your hiking boots, make sure to bring enough water and snacks for the trip because we’re on the way to Camp Karas 2024. After a five year hiatus, we’re back on the road, headed north to the Coconino National Forest, a 1.86 million square acre National Forest in northern Arizona in the area of Flagstaff, Arizona. The Coconino National Forest ranges in elevation from 2,600 feet to over 12,000 feet at the top of Humphrey’s Peak. It includes a diverse landscape including desert, ponderosa pines, mesas, flatlands, alpine tundra, and even ancient volcanic peaks. We’ll be featuring several locations, features, flora, and fauna that can be found in Coconino National Forest. The second Camp Karas ’24 release is inspired by the beautiful conifers that spread throughout much of Coconino National Forest making it a destination for camping, hiking, and sight-seeing for residents of Phoenix. The San Francisco Peaks tower over the residents of Flagstaff, Arizona, and as you travel further up into these beautiful, dormant volcanoes you’ll begin to pass through lush strands of conifers and pines. Douglas firs intermixed with blue spruce and subalpine fir even the occasional quaking aspen can be found growing on these slopes.
The “Forest for the Trees” Pocket Modal celebrates the greenery of Arizona, specifically the trees found in Coconino National Forest. The body of the pen is anodized in a matte green color not too dark, not too light, but right in the middle. We elected to use matte brown anodized clips and buttons for these pens, giving that glimpse of bark on the trunk and branches. We’ve never released a pen with green and brown colors before, and this one looks quite nice. Like the previous Camp Karas releases, we’ve created some badge style icons for each release and a special Camp Karas icon as well. The Camp Karas logo for this year is a variation of our State Route road signs that features the outline of the state of Arizona. The number 24 is in large font in place of the state route number, and Camp Karas is at the top of the icon in place of the word “Arizona”. The badge icon for the “Forest of the Trees” is a hexagon exterior with a strand of three conifer shaped trees in the center. This is a limited edition release that will not be repeated as a Pocket Modal. You’ll be prompted to select from a variety of refills when you check out. Ships with custom Camp Karas 24 sticker sheet.
While considering how best to allow for the standard Parker style ballpoint refill to be used with the Modal functionality, we debated on whether to simply offer an adapter kit or to go further and have a separate pen. In the long run, we decided to do both because we realized the separate pen could be a smaller pocket pen that was still balanced well and super functional. We used the EDK lower barrels which allows for the use of the traditional Parker style ballpoint refills and the Schmidt P8126/7 refills which are popular liquid ink refill option. This pen is nearly 0.5 inches shorter than the standard Modal, but still fits comfortably in the hand. It’s even easier to carry in a pocket with the pocket carry clip. And it will feature a similar material and color scheme as our EDK pens use, primarily tumbled finishes and matte anodize.
