The Tequila Sunrise Vertex Special Release is one of the final Vertex pen releases that features material created by Zoe before she left. It’s a wonderful blend of white, orange, yellow, and reddish-pink colors that look like a beautiful sunrise. There is some mica in different sizes mixed throughout the material to give it added luster. We landed on Tequila Sunrise for the name because these look so much like that famous cocktail. If you’re familiar with the Tequila Sunrise cocktail, you know that the original version was developed in 1930 at the Arizona Biltmore Hotel, but a later version became the more prominent form of the drink. This version came about in the 1970s at the famous Sausalito, California bar-restaurant-music venue, The Trident. The artwork features a nod to that floating home of the Tequila Sunrise in the trident motifs and the graphic in the middle. We went for more beach/wave feelings with the lettering. We wanted to close out the summer with a fun Vertex that pops, and we feel the Tequila Sunrise fits that bill perfectly.
The Tequila Sunrise Vertex is handcrafted in our shop in Mesa, Arizona, from the material to the machining to the finishing and packaging, this is us pushing ourselves to continue to make more of the processes in-house to keep costs down while ensuring the quality remains to standard. For this release, we’re doing things a little differently. We’re offering the pen in the standard format with the machined box and laser-engraved lid at standard Vertex pricing. Alternatively, you can elect to have the pen shipped without the machined aluminum box for a discounted price, and the pen will ship in our cardboard recyclable packaging. We’ve received feedback from many customers who say they love the box, but they take up far too much space and they don’t know what to do with the boxes. We understand and figured the easiest thing to do would be to give you the option of how you purchased the pen. When you check out select from any of our available grips in aluminum or polycarbonate. You’ll also have the option to select from a variety of steel nibs, with titanium upgrades available.
The Vertex is our second release in our Signature Series which is built around using plastics and other resins as the main parts of the pen. From the beginning, we wanted to create something that looked, felt, and functioned differently than other pens on the market. The Vertex’s basic design is that of a classic eyedropper pocket fountain pen. It functions with only four parts: a cap, barrel, grip, and nib. Simply add ink to the reservoir, and you can happily write pages of notes before you need to refill. Eyedropper pens can be tricky and messy, and we wanted to eliminate some of those concerns. During the engineering phase, we implemented designs of custom-fit o-rings to eliminate the need for silicone grease to seal the grip and nib areas. We wanted a smooth transition from grip to barrel, so we moved traditional breakpoint from the section back, and using a third o-ring in the cap adapted slip cap functionality for the pen. The longer grip section allows for the use of an “ink window” with transparent materials which adds a little flair to the pen. The Vertex looks and feels streamlined and aerodynamic with soft tapers, a cigar-shaped body, and a concave cap top; the Vertex is at once futuristic and reminiscent of the classic lines of Parker and Sheaffer pens. Comes standard with a Bock polished steel nib, with upgrades in titanium and 14k gold when in stock. The #6 nibs units are manufactured by Peter Bock in Germany. Also included with each pen is a 2 ml soft pipette and 2 black Monteverde ink cartridges. Each pen is designed and machined, by us, in the USA.
