The Vertex is our second release in our Signature Series which is built around using plastics and other resins as the main parts of the pen. From the beginning, we wanted to create something that looked, felt, and functioned differently than other pens on the market. The Vertex’s basic design is that of a classic eyedropper pocket fountain pen, however it will also accept a standard international cartridge or standard international converter if you’re disinclined to use it as an eyedropper. It functions with only four parts: a cap, barrel, grip, and nib. Simply add ink to the reservoir, and you can happily write pages of notes before you need to refill. Eyedropper pens can be tricky and messy, and we wanted to eliminate some of those concerns. During the engineering phase, we implemented designs of custom fit o-rings to eliminate the need for silicone grease to seal the grip and nib areas. We wanted a smooth transition from grip to barrel, so we moved the traditional breakpoint from the section back, and using a third o-ring in the cap adapted slip cap functionality for the pen. The longer grip section allows for the use of an “ink window” with transparent materials which adds a little flair to the pen. The Vertex looks and feels streamlined and aerodynamic. With soft tapers, a cigar-shaped body, and a concave cap top; the Vertex is at once futuristic but also reminiscent of the classic lines of Parker and Sheaffer pens. We have added Delrin to the production release of the Vertex, which means the machining runs of Delrin Vertex pens will be in larger quantities and we will attempt to keep them in stock longer and return to machining them faster than some of the special release colors and materials we release. Delrin is a durable, self-lubricating industrial resin. It can be found in aerospace and automotive industries for a variety of different purposes. We’ve released pens in the past made from Delrin, specifically the U2 Decograph, that have been some of our most popular releases. The success of pens made from this material is what pushed us to add it to the production release of the Vertex. The white Delrin Vertex is fully machined natural white Delrin, that has been hand sanded and polished to a very uniform, bright white finish. The black Delrin is fully machined that has been hand sanded then hard tumbled to give it a soft variegated finish. Ships in a machined aluminum box we have designed specifically for the Vertex fountain pen, custom foam inserts have been sourced for the box, and the lid has been logo’d on the outside with Vertex logo while the inside of the lid is custom marked with instructions on filling and care of the pen. Comes standard with a Bock polished steel nib, with upgrades in two-tone steel, titanium, and 14k gold available. The #6 nibs units are manufactured by Peter Bock in Germany. Also included with each pen is a 2 ml soft pipette and a Schmidt K5 international standard converter. Each pen is designed and machined, by us, in the USA.
